My name is Ken Tomilson. I have a stained glass workshop in my home in Vancouver's West End. I exclusively use the copper foil technique to construct stained glass projects, which allows me to make not only windows and flat projects but also 3-D objects such as lamp shades and boxes.

I have always been drawn to the beauty of stained glass art. It seems more accessible than most wall art because it throws energy into a room in the form of coloured light. Its textures twinkle and wink as you walk by and and the hues evolve thoughout the day as the outside light changes.

I appreciate too, that the artist's signature is not required to sell the art. That allows the artist to separate his ego from the art. Those who own my art do so solely because of its beauty, not because of a signature. I consider unsigned stained glass art to be 'folk art'.

I have worked with stained glass since 1978. I have been creating my own designs since my first year. I have kept my stained glass art as a sideline, not my main source of income, so I am able to accept only those jobs that are of interest to me, but I do enjoy working with clients to bring their ideas from concept to reality. I like to involve clients in the design process and the selection of the glass that will be used whenever possible. I have taught the basic skills of the art and I'm still interested in mentoring students who are highly motivated.
